2008 Insect Resistant Management (IRM)
On-Farm Assessment Project
Growers who choose to plant corn and cotton
varieties containing B.t. traits that provide resistance to insect
pests must adopt an overall Insect-Resistance Management (IRM) plan
intended to preserve the long-term benefits of this technology by
ensuring that insects do not establish a resistance to it.
These growers play an integral part in maintaining the value of
these traits by planting and maintaining refuge areas on their farms.
AOSCA and its member Agencies will be working
with growers and technology providers in 2008 to perform On-Farm
Assessment surveys that will provide data related to grower compliance
with IRM refuge requirements mandated by the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency.
Anyone wanting to learn more about IRM strategies
is encouraged to contact the AOSCA office and direct their questions
to our staff.
